THE RED SHORE RE-VISIT THE PAST ON FORTHCOMING RELEASE 'LOST VERSES' OUT MAY 2009 ON STOMP ENTERTAINMENT

RS_logo

After the triumphant release of last year's stunning CD/DVD "Unconsecrated" The Red Shore now find themselves looking to their past to light the way forward.  With little down time in-between tours The Red Shore decided to spend theirs jamming on songs from their past and the outcome was just too inspiring to go undocumented.

LOST VERSES is more than a trip down memory lane for the Melbourne based extreme metal crew, it's honouring their fallen brothers, celebrating their early works and most importantly, it's the band regrouping and having fun doing what they do best...shredding, grinding  and pummelling your senses with a sonic assault of biblical proportions.

LOST VERSES was recorded & mixed on the fly by guitarist Roman Koester at Complex Studios and while this was not meant to be anything more than the band jamming on some old tunes for fun.....  the result is nothing short of jaw dropping.

Here's what The Red Shore founding member Jamie Hope had to say about it:

"We're stoked to announce that we'll be releasing a new disc for you guys as early as May!  We decided to get back in the studio while we had some brief time off in-between tours and have some fun jamming on our older stuff and put it out for you guys to bang your heads to!"

"We're really excited as this is going to add a lot to our live show and people that never got to hear these older songs live will now have the chance!  LOST VERSES  will feature tracks such as Flesh Couture, Effigy Of Death and Knives and Wolves as well as many other tracks from past chapters of the band!  Keep an eye out for a preview track on our Myspace page and www.stomp.com.au - it's coming soon. Plus look out for LOST VERSES hitting shelves nationwide at a record store near you in May!!!!"

PLEASE ALLOW THE THERMALS TO REINTRODUCE THEMSELVES WITH A NEW ALBUM, OUT THIS APRIL

thermals_promoshot_march2009Hi, we're The Thermals.  We're a three-piece alternative/indie/punk band.  We live in Portland, Oregon.  You know, the place all your friends are moving.  So they can paint/record/do gravity bong hits, when they're not slinging lattes at one of a thousand or so coffee shops.

We have some lovely neighbours here.  The Shins, Modest Mouse, The Decemberists, The Jicks, The Blow, Blitzen Trapper, Menomena, you can stop us anytime.  What you can't stop is the overwhelming awesomeness of Portland's indie-rock scene, of which we consider ourselves an integral part, thank you very much!

Since the summer of fear and hate (2002), we, The Thermals, have been cranking out three-minute, no-fi sonic gems with a neo-grunge attitude.  When we're not powering through one of our catchy anthems, we're racking our brains to come up with ridiculous(ly bad) new sub-genres.  Hey, we just thought of a new one!  Just in time for the release of our new album, Now We Can See.  It's totally post-power-pop.  We know, we've done the whole "post-" thing before (see our 2006 opus The Body, The Blood, The Machine, a true post-pop-punk classic).  We should really be so post-"post-" at this point.  But we're not.  Do you know why, dear reader?  Because adding "post-" to any genre AUTOMATICALLY MAKES YOUR MUSIC SOUND SMARTER.  Actually, adding "post-" to any word or phrase immediately makes you "over" it, and therefore better than it.  Go ahead, try it!  Don't forget to thank us when yr ass is post-broke.

But, uh, yeah, our new record. Sorry, we got distracted. We're sitting on our porch writing this, and sixty naked bicyclists just rode by. Portland! We love this fuckin' place.

Like we said, our new record is called Now We Can See.  We think it's pretty good!  Pret-ty, pret-ty, pret-ty good.  Not only are the songs filled with some of our smartest lyrics and sweetest melodies, but the recording is, for us, another great leap in fidelity (you might even call it hi-fidelity), thanks to producer John Congleton (Explosions In The Sky, Polyphonic Spree), who brought massive amounts of sound and bombastic style to the project.

So much else is new and wonderful for us! We have a new record label, Kill Rock Stars.  Not only has Kill Rock Stars released some of Portland's (and the Northwest's) best punk and indie records to date (Elliott Smith, Sleater-Kinney, The Gossip), but the label has recently relocated to Portland, and is quickly filling it's roster with even more great Portland bands (Shaky Hands, Panther, Horse Feathers).  The Thermals are thrilled to now be a part of this family as well.  We were thrilled to be part of the Sub Pop family for six years, but we felt it was time to move on.

We have a new drummer as well. Westin Glass, formerly of Seattle's Say Hi, joins us (Kathy Foster and Hutch Harris) to complete the third (or so) live line-up of The Thermals.

Whew! We're exhausted already. It's probably time to hit the vaporizer again, then head out for Voodoo Doughnuts and Stumptown Coffee. We gotta get down to Lincoln High, Gus Van Sant is casting 16-25 year olds for his next picture. We can pull off 25, right? Sure!

But only in Portland.

XOXO
The Thermals

Check back shortly for full album details.

MY DYING BRIDE IS BACK WITH 'FOR LIES I SIRE', OUT NOW THRU STOMP/PEACEVILLE

MyDyingBridelogo My Dying Bride has been the leading light of doom metal since their debut album ‘As The Flower Withers’ was released on Peaceville Records back in 1992. Influenced by acts such as Celtic Frost and Candlemass, the band’s heavy atmospherics have carved a huge worldwide following over the years and they remain at the pinnacle of the genre and one of the most instantly distinguishable metal bands.

‘For Lies I Sire’, My Dying Bride’s tenth studio album, is out now and consists of 9 songs of crushing doom, recorded and mixed at Futureworks in Manchester, UK, with long-time producer Mags throughout the second half of 2008. It is the band’s first album since re-signing to long-time home Peaceville Records, and looks set to become another quality addition to the MDB catalogue, such is the scope of this latest journey into the depths of despair.

This album is the follow-up to 2006’s hit, ‘A Line Of Deathless Kings’, and is the first studio album with new members Dan Mullins on drums, Lena Abe on bass, and violin/keyboard player Katie Stone. 2008 has seen a successful year for the band, having released their live CD/DVD ‘An Ode to Woe’, plus their high profile ‘Unholy Trinity’ shows re-uniting the ‘Peaceville three’ (Paradise Lost, Anathema & My Dying Bride).

Featuring some seriously heavy-as-hell sombre doom, ‘For Lies I Sire’ wades effortlessly and poetically through tales of darkness and gloom, this time textured with the much-anticipated return of the often-missed violin, last featured well over ten years ago.

'PLANETARY DUALITY' THE LATEST RELEASE FROM THE FACELESS. HEAR IT NOW

faceless_promoshotmarch09Spawned from the seed of aliens and birthed from the wombs of monsters, the members of The Faceless were raised in isolation with nothing but their musicianship to soothe their wretched existence.  Since crushing their earth enemies with weapons of mass sonic destruction and releasing their debut and first release ever for Sumerian Records entitled Akeldama, The Faceless has proven that they are a music force to be reckoned with touring non stop supporting their debut opus selling 20,000 units to date.

As smart aliens would, they set up their base in Los Angeles to attack at the nucleus of today's plagued heavy music scene.  Using advanced mind control tactics, they have managed to single-headedly assimilate every death metal fan, hardcore kid, tech metal elitist, myspace scenester, thrasher and worshipper of the shred all in one fatal swoop of aural hypnotism.

The Faceless impressed fans and have received rave reviews for their appearance on the Summer Slaughter tour across Australia this month.  About to hit the road in the US with Cannibal Corpse, The Faceless has produced a tech-metal masterpiece in 'Planetary Duality' that is already set to top 2009 best album lists worldwide.

HAVE HEART TO TOUR OZ THIS MAY

HAVEHEART+PROMOSHOT_MARCH09Have Heart launched onto the worldwide hardcore scene in 2006 with the release of their debut full-length The Things We Carry.  The world of hardcore was caught by surprise and calling the album “breakthrough” would be an understatement. Follow up album 2008’s Songs To Scream At The Sun debuted in the top 200 of the Billboard charts, and is the sound of an open call or a challenge to what people expect from a hardcore band. Lyrically and vocally, frontman Pat Flynn puts forward nothing short of ten intense and chilling songs-opening up personally in a way he only hinted at for The Things We Carry.

The band went from a regional hardcore band with a passionate following to Boston’s worldwide hardcore torch-bearers that would play every continent except Africa and Antarctica, selling out shows everywhere with the likes of Bane, Ceremony, Verse, Madball, Terror and even playing 50,000 person festivals in Columbia with Coheed & Cambria.

This May we see Have Heart returning to our shores for their first headline Australian tour. Tickets are on sale now.

EARTH CRISIS POST A NEW TRACK TITLED 'TO ASHES' ON THEIR MYSPACE PAGE

Earthcrisis_promoshotPotentially one of the most important hardcore bands of our generation, EARTH CRISIS recently announced their return and signing to Century Media Records.

Now the band that led the fight against animal cruelty and created awareness of the straight edge lifestyle is set to unleash “To The Death” on April 18th.

EARTH CRISIS has just revamped their official MySpace page and launched a new track, titled "To Ashes", so check it out now at http://www.myspace.com/earthcrisis!

The band comments: "We are really excited to finally unleash a new song on the world. Musically and lyrically, this is definitely one of the hardest songs on the new record! We hope you all agree."

The blistering new effort, “To The Death”, was self produced with the acclaimed Tue Madsen (Sick Of It All, The Haunted) handling mixing and mastering duties. Artwork for the effort was handled by Paul Romano (Mastodon, Godflesh). The band has also partnered with PETA and plan to stay active within the animal liberation scene. With extensive touring planned and a new record on the way, EARTH CRISIS are set to remind you what hardcore is all about.

OBITS RELEASE 'I BLAME YOU' THIS MARCH THROUGH SUB POP & STOMP

Iblameyou_packshotObits is Rick Froberg (guitarist and vocalist for Hot Snakes, Pitchfork and Drive Like Jehu), Sohrab Habibion, Greg Simpson, and Scott Gursky. They reside in Brooklyn, NY. There is a bootleg of their first live show from Jan. ‘08 at the Cake Shop in NY somewhere on the internet. As with most of these sorts of things, the sound quality of that recording is pretty poor. The songs though… The songs are really great. Obits like a lot of music—Television, Wipers, Michael Yonkers, 13th Floor Elevators, Neu!, The Shangri-Las, African psych, punk rock. They don’t really sound that much like Creedence, maybe a little.

Since that first show, Sub Pop somehow convinced Obits that releasing records on their label would be a good idea, and had them come to Seattle in July of 2008 to play the Sub Pop 20th anniversary festival. I Blame You is a rock’n’roll record. Like all the best rock’n’roll records, it’s a group synthesis of the band’s combined influences. The band take apart and reassemble the genre’s traditions, raving up the ‘30s-era blues standard “Milk Cow Blues,” group vocalizing on a Motown-y mid-tempo ballad “Back and Forth”, bopping through bass-driven rockers “Two-Headed Coin”, taking surf-y riffs for a burning-rubber spin “Pine On”. And it’s all done with a genuine sense of fun throughout.

“We’re not into innovation as a band,” says Froberg, who’s already done his fair share of innovating with Hot Snakes and Drive Like Jehu. “I think innovation is overrated and an overestimated quality. Anything that’s going to be original is going to happen without your control. Things that make your band sound like you, are things you wouldn’t be able to change anyway. We just go ahead and play the stuff we like, and we don’t worry about originality per se, because that takes care of itself.”

Produced by G. Sanoff, E. Janney and Obits, I Blame You is the band’s debut album and is out on the 28th March through Sub Pop/Stomp.
