Devil Wears Prada - With Roots Above & Branches Below

The Devil Wears Prada’s  new album “With Roots Above And Branches Below” has debuted at #11 on Billboard’s Top 200 Chart!

The band scanned over 30,883 (31,152 RTD) albums within a week in the U.S. with initial reports that they sold over 15,000 copies the first day.  This flurry of sales also landed the band as #1 on the Indie Rock Chart, #1 on the Hard Music Chart and #1 on the Christian chart.

Speaking on the first week’s results Ferret Music/Channel ZERO’s Carl Severson said “Ferret Music and Channel ZERO endeavour to develop artists – be it via our label, management, touring or other companies.  The music industry is far from dead and we’re excited to have talented, passionate, hardworking bands like The Devil Wears Prada working with us to prove  Our thanks to everyone at The Independent Label Group, Artery, The Agency Group and everyone that hustles for music! Look forward to more big things from Ferret and CZ!

The Devil Wears Prada recently wrapped up their national headlining tour entitled “The Sweet Brag Tour.”  Most of the 43 dates were sold out and the band is now readying for a summer on the main stage of Warped Tour.

MINITEL ROSE? THE NEWEST FRENCH SENSATION SINCE JUSTICE.

minitelrose_frenchmachine_packshotMinitel Rose has been tearing up the French electro pop scene for the last 12 months. With a mindset somewhere between 'Blue Monday' (1983) and 'Flashdance' (1984) and contemporary bands such as Justice and Daft Punk, Minitel Rose's first record is a real dance music treasure for fans of modern pop music. Full of synthetic hooks and catchy vocals, ‘The French Machine’ captures an album full of youthful vibrancy and plenty of pure pop pleasures.

Since their buzz on myspace in 2008 which saw their first track ‘Be With You’ receive 100,000 plays in its first day, Minitel Rose (Quentin Gauvin (keyboards/vox), Raphael d’Hervez (vox), Romain Leme (keyboards)) have become a huge band in France and are now poised to conquer the world. With recent remixes for the likes of Gonzales, Of Montreal, Fischerspooner and tour slots with Sebastien Tellier and Yelle ‘The French Machine’ will see them explode globally in 2009. “When I Was A Punk” gets New Order and Metallica inspired synth riffs, twisting around a real leitmotiv.

"It was Saturday night, and I was drunk" and more than half of the album's tracks are real hits, that swing between the golden period of Depeche Mode to the new sounds of pop coming through the airwaves of Europe. The opening “Elevator” twists tough electro-house beats over scything synth hooks as Quentin and Raphael fight over the microphone, “Magic Powder” uses a catchy whistle to evoke the memory of early 80s electro hooks whilst the band add their own pop pastiche over the top and new single “Continue” sounds like Daft Punk doing battle with Klaxons.

Feeling nostalgic for a time they didn't even know, Minitel Rose's musicians have been influenced by TV show soundtracks like Knight Rider and The A•Team and in a sense ‘The French Machine’ is a love letter for the bygone time that became pop music’s golden era. Minitel Rose are fighting to bring it back to its former glory and ‘The French Machine’ could very well be the key.

"Minitel Rose share Klaxons’ melodic sensibility, Boy Crisis’ lissom sophistication and, at their best (whistle-tastic single ‘Magic Powder’, a potential indie-electro ‘Young Folks’), Lykke Li’s spare sound palette." - NME

CURSIVE RELEASE THE FOLLOW UP TO 'HAPPY HOLLOW' TITLED 'MAMA I'M SWOLLEN' ON THE 19TH OF JUNE

cursive_promoshot_may09

Ever since Cursive burst onto the music scene with their 1997 debut album, the band has consistently and continually churned out heady albums heralded by critics and fans alike. Wrestling with life’s miseries and mysteries, Mama, I’m Swollen is an album brimming with the universal, questioning the human condition, social morality, and the “Peter Pan Syndrome” of grown men.

After the underground success of their third album, Cursive’s Domestica, in 2000, the band followed up with what would prove to be their breakthrough album, The Ugly Organ, in 2003. A self-aware conceptual record about artistic constraints (or lack thereof), relationships, sex, and the intersection of all three, it landed them on the Arts section cover of The New York Times and accolades from Rolling Stone, Alternative Press, Blender, Magnet, Esquire, and Spin – as well as a place on many year-end best lists. Cursive spent the next year and a half touring the album relentlessly, playing Coachella and being handpicked by The Cure for their Curiosa tour in late 2004.

Exhausted and admittedly daunted by the task of following up a hit record, Cursive went on hiatus before re-emerging with the adventurous Happy Hollow in 2006. Lauded as a triumphant comeback by publications such as Alternative Press, Spin, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, and Blender, the album examined small-town angst, American dreams, and religion. Midway through touring in early 2007, original drummer Clint Schnase amicably departed the band. Cornbread Compton (formerly of Engine Down) officially signed on as drummer by this time and what musically unfolded from this newly realized foursome was indeed…Cursive.

Kasher is a storyteller, a weaver of songs that can read more like short stories or fables than the standard verse-chorus-verse. Mama, I’m Swollen finds him at his literate, lyrical best, where references to both Poe (“Going To Hell”) and Pinocchio (“Donkeys”) are intertwined seamlessly within his own tales of characters grappling with the moral quandary of being human, adult, and playing a role in ‘civilized’ society. Musically, Cursive is as smart and sophisticated as ever, the songs’ rousing, cerebral content complemented by moments alternately hushed and exhilarating (the cathartic first single “From The Hips,” the noisily melodic romp “I Couldn’t Love You”), eerily moody and jaunty (the almost prayer-like “Let Me Up,” “Mama, I’m Swollen”) – moments that often occur within the very same song. From the charging bass lines of album opener “In The Now” to the quiet first chords of confessional closer “What Have I Done?”, Mama, I’m Swollen is a natural progression that remains distinctively Cursive: a fluid amalgamation of the band’s sound past, present, and future – a band that both your punk kid sister and English lit grad student best friend can call their own.

Whew. Mama, I’m Swollen is also one very simple thing: an amazing Cursive record, proving yet again why – after all these years – the quartet remains one of the most exciting and inventive rock bands today.

EAT SKULL NIXES THE 'LO-FI' TAG WITH NEW ALBUM 'WILD & INSIDE' OUT THIS JUNE

Wild&inside_packshotEat Skull’s Sick to Death received worldwide accolades for its frantic pacing, unimpeachable lyric quality, and nugget after nugget of pop hooks buried under a gob of lo-fi muzz. On this follow-up, Wild & Inside, fans and critics will find a cleaner, more inimitable Eat Skull at work. Front man Rob Enbom has outdone himself with both lyrics and structure on Wild and Inside, and the band as a whole rises to the challenge of nixing the lo-fi tag for a sound that’s less... antecedent.

Gone is the wall of crud that prevents discerning listeners from identifying the instrumental play-by-play; in its stead, a set of crafted songs recall the paisley punk of The Last and the rural-delica of Great Plains, as well as nodding to the sanguine pop of early Flying Nun bands such as The Double Happys. Wild and Inside is a grower for the ages. It breathes deep and exhales perfectly.

Eat Skull performed to packed crowds at this year’s SXSW and will be trekking the world over throughout 2009.

“On their first album Sick to Death, the Portland, Ore., band Eat Skull mashes together almost everything that’s great about trashy art-punk, weirdo fuzz-garage, skuzzy punk-pop, Kiwi garage-rock and off-kilter bedroom-strum. ...once your ears adjust, you realize that it’s all killer, no filler.” — Pitchfork (8.3 rating)

TEAM B (KELLY PRATT OF BEIRUT/ARCADE FIRE) RELEASES DEBUT ALBUM THIS JUNE

TeamB packshotThe previous two years have been extremely busy for Kelly Pratt. Between touring with The Arcade Fire and Beirut and recording with Coldplay, Nina Persson, Final Fantasy, The Macabees, Bishop Allen, Herman Dune, and many others, there shouldn’t be time to breathe, much less write songs. This busy sideman lifestyle is the driving force behind Pratt’s new project Team B.

While on tour in 2007 and 2008 with Arcade Fire and Beirut, he realized that down time should be spent doing something more productive than keg stands. Armed with his laptop and the myriad instruments present on stage, he snuck off by himself to work on a series of new songs that reflect his wide tastes in music. Written in hotel rooms in the middle of the night, crammed backstage dressing rooms, and noisy airports, these songs are the Team B debut album.

In his weeks off tour, the songs were tweaked, partially re-recorded, and perfected in his apartment and various studios around Brooklyn. Drummer Pat Mahoney (LCD Soundsystem), bassist Richard Reed Parry (Arcade Fire), and Jon Natchez and Perrin Cloutier (Beirut) all provide invaluable contributions to the album. However, the lion’s share of the music (vocals, guitars, horns, keyboards) is performed by the multi-instrumentalist leader. The strength of Team B’s debut lies primarily in Pratt’s diverse songwriting. The lounge-pop opener ‘On My Mind’ features a roaring, distorted trumpet solo and Mahoney’s impressive drumming. The driving guitars and organ of ‘No Purchase Necessary’ evoke Weezer and Ween more than Arcade Fire, and the Zappa-esque doo-wop closer ‘Salad Days’ is an ironic salute to people feeling nostalgic for the free-for-all Reagan days. The quieter moments of the album include the meditative piano-driven ‘Empty Hallways’ and the minimal electronica of ‘Misma.’

Realising the importance of a great live show, Pratt’s impressive band consists of members of Beirut, Jealous Girlfriends, and Stars Like Fleas. Their first-ever show sold out, due in no small part to mentions on Pitchfork, BrooklynVegan, Stereogum, and other respected music blogs. The reviews were positive, and there are plans for both US and European tours for 2009.

While Team B may have begun as a side-project in the strictest sense of the term, the songwriting and musicianship of the debut and the talent of the live band prove that they are definitely one to watch in 2009.

DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR BACK WITH NEW ALBUM ‘BETTER WAYS TO DIE’ THIS JULY

DBD_logoDEATH BEFORE DISHONOR’S NEW ALBUM, ‘BETTER WAYS TO DIE’ sET TO HIT STORES ON JULY 24TH, 2009

In the four years since they originally joined the Bridge Nine roster, Death Before Dishonor has released two full-length albums, two 7”’s, and played almost 1,000 shows around the globe.  Now, Death Before Dishonor is gearing up to release their third and most accomplished studio album to date - Better Ways to Die.  This album solidifies Death Before Dishonor’s unflinching ability and desire to establish themselves outside of clichés and the pre-defined constructs of what it is to be “hardcore.”

Recorded by Jim Siegel, Better Ways To Die showcases Death Before Dishonor reaching outside of the safe hardcore formulas both in songs and content while still retaining their roots in the South Boston
upbringing. Better Ways To Die lies somewhere between the harder punk edge of Rancid, the working class anthems of fellow Bostonians Dropkick Murphys, the hardcore attack of Hatebreed and the precision and riffage of Slayer – this is the sound of a true Boston Hardcore band.

Lyrically, Better Ways To Die is an undeniable view into the world that is Death Before Dishonor; the blue collar, overlooked, undervalued segments of society and how we all survive in the face of
adversity.  However, this album pushes beyond just anger and rage as songs like “Remember” and “Our Glory Days” remind us of the hope and salvation that can be found in punk and hardcore music.  And the band takes on relatable and familiar ground, but turn it inside out with a personal outlook and perspective not often found.  You have “Boys In Blue”, which takes the often heard punk mantra “fuck the police” but rather than be an anti-state punk song we’ve heard before-it’s inspired by and about the wrongful arrest and police abuse of Harris’ brother he watched first hand.

Coffin Nail” is an anti-drug song but far from a straight edge anthem-it’s a first-hand account of watching people dissipate to drug use in the face of pain and hard luck.  The title track is a unique view on war-it’s not a political or anti-war song- the song is about realizing war’s effects in a poorer neighborhood and is perhaps one of the best Death Before Dishonor songs to date.  Death Before Dishonor is not only writing vitriolic and venomous songs, but Harris gives you a view into their world in the process so you know where they’re coming from and WHY he’s so angry.

Better Ways To Die is the sound of defiance when all one is surrounded with is defeat and marginalization. “If it weren’t for this band, I would be sitting in Massachusetts,” Harris stated.  “In the last two years I’ve been to Australia, Russia, Ukraine, Japan, all across Europe, the US and Canada and I’ve seen all four oceans.  We have no reason to stop now- people are now starting to pay attention.”  Better Ways To Die will be in stores July 24th from Bridge Nine Records/Stomp Entertainment.

KANYE WEST & YUSEF MALIK PRESENT G.O.O.D MORNING, G.O.O.D NIGHT - OUT THIS JUNE

promoimageKanye West is one of the most innovative and influential artists walking the earth today. Within the past five years, the Chicago icon has released three full-length albums, moved over 13 million units worldwide and won ten Grammy Awards. That is simply astonishing, and he's just getting started. Now he is on the verge of releasing the FIRST and ONLY independent album from his 'G.O.O.D. Music' label as he and Malik Yusef present G.O.O.D. Morning, G.O.O.D. Night. Malik Yusef, an accomplished Emmy, Grammy and Peabody award-winning poet, received acclaim within the music industry when he released his debut album The Greatest Chicago Fire – Cold Day In Hell back in 2003.

G.O.O.D. Morning, G.O.O.D. Night
is two-disc collection consisting of 30 emotional tracks with each song representing a distinctive 48-minute time period of the day. “We talk about the circular aspect of life and how things are 360. The morning and night represents one full day cycle,” Yusef explains. “G.O.O.D. Morning shows the more light aspect and G.O.O.D. Night represents the more sullen aspect of life.”

With the release of G.O.O.D. Morning, G.O.O.D. Night, Yusef is now only inches away from achieving his primary goal. “I just want to sneak my way into the soul of people and [I want] people to allow me to be apart of their lives,” he says. “I’m just asking permission into their existence, and [I’m using] the music as that vehicle.”

'Magic Man' featuring Common, John Legend and Kanye West will serve as the first single, with the rest of the album featuring collaborations with the Adam Levine of Maroon 5, Cassidy, Carl Thomas, Michelle Williams (Destiny's Child), Jadakiss, Jennifer Hudson, KRS-One, Paul Wall, Twista and many more.

DEEZ NUTS MAIN MAN JJ PETERS TEAMS UP WITH NEW ZEALAND HIP HOP ARTIST LOUIE KNUXX TO BRING YOU...GRIPS & TONIC.

G&T_promoshot_09

Deez Nuts fans will know Louie Knuxx as the smooth stylin MC that graced the tracks "Tonight We're Gonna Party" and "Move Back" from Deez Nuts` debut album Stay True and also as a special guest on the Deez Nuts national Stay True tour.

New Zealand's Louie Knuxx (real name Todd Williams) has long been a figure head of the local hop hop scene with two successful releases already under his belt, 2005's "Wasted Youth" and last years "Drinkin, Druggin, Fightin, Fukkin' EP which features JJ Peters on the track "DTD Party"

JJ & Louie may have come from different musical backgrounds but their deserved credibility and desire to succeed has brought them together - not to mention they're dislike for authority figures and penchant for partying until the wheels fall off.

Through the chaos that has been their lives they have found a way to express their thoughts, answer to no-one and raise a ruckas where ever they go.  Its this attitude that has been captured throughout 10 tracks of lyrical mayhem highlighting the seedy underbelly and beliefs of the hardcore & hip-hop scenes through the lyrics of two guys who truly walk it like they talk it.

The debut album 'Want Some Get Some' will be released in June on STOMP ENTERTAINMENT.

JJ & LK had this to say: 'G&T is what it is, not bound by genre or expectations, we believe in good music and doing things our way, this is the result'

Check out 'Pigs Is Pigs' from the forthcoming album 'Want Some Get Some' due June 2009

THE PAPER CHASE RELEASE 'SOMEDAY COULD ALL BE YOURS' IN JUNE THROUGH KILL ROCK STARS & STOMP

paperchase_packshotWith each track representing a different natural disaster, The Paper Chase leader John Congleton (Grammy nominated producer/engineer/mixer who has worked with Modest Mouse, The Thermals, Smog, Explosions in the Sky, Antony and the Johnsons, St. Vincent, and many more) crafts his most startling account of humanity, exploring the existential crisis inherent within a universe seemingly fated to exterminate its population. Wringing the most sinister and destructive elements out of the natural world, Congleton creates characters frantically trying to survive elements far beyond their control. While the narrative voices obsess over the batteries in their smoke alarms, the dams along the river and their desperate prayers for health and prosperity, these songs expose the utter frailty of the human condition.

Utilizing a newfound dynamic command with drummer Jason Garner making his recorded debut with the group, these songs are able to breathe--subtly building feelings of anticipation, yet erupting into violence and chaos as crisis becomes inevitable. The Paper Chase has matured but hasn't lightened up, leaving open spaces and allowing melodies to fully develop, the group presents its most powerful work to date. On Someday.., The Paper Chase sound even more unlike any other band in modern music.

"Evocative and delivered with a total, delectable lack of restraint.” - Pitchfork

DON'T MISS 'THE DRUNK AND DISORDERLY TOUR 2009' FEAT. DEEZ NUTS AND THE AMITY AFFLICTION

deeznuts_amity_tour09The Amity Affliction and Deez Nuts team up once again for The Drunk and Disorderly 2009 tour, bringing along Break Even, Ligeia (USA) and Louie Knuxx for the ride.

The Drunk and Disorderly tour first happened in 2007, as The Amity Affliction and Deez Nuts teamed up for one of the craziest tours of the year – a cross country party tour that unified close friends and good times for three weeks of alcohol induced punk rock goodness.  Since then, both bands have carved out a much bigger name for themselves – both releasing their debut albums to hoards of praise, and establishing themselves as road warriors.  The Amity Affliction released their debut album “Severed Ties” in October 2008, debuting at #26 on the ARIA Charts, and recently toured Australia with Misery Signals – they will also be main support for The Getaway Plan on their last tour in June.  Deez Nuts, have become an international success story in their own right. Not only has their debut album “Stay True” (also released in October) been a massive hit in Australia, but they've managed to tour the UK and Europe with Bring Me the Horizon (UK) and will be returning from their US tour just days prior to kicking off the Drunk and Disorderly tour.  Along for the ride will be Perth Hardcore band Break Even, US mosh maniacs Ligeia and local rapper Louie Knuxx. The tour will be reach all major East Coast cities, with Western Australian dates to be announced at a later date. The Drunk and Disorderly tour will kick off in Queensland late June, running through till July. Tickets on sale April 24th at 9am.

MODERAT = MODESELEKTOR & APPARAT! EXCLUSIVE ALBUM PREVIEW HERE

Modeselektors sophomore album in 2007, Happy Birthday!, set a milestone in German music history including musicians such as Puppetmastaz, Maximo Park and  Thom Yorke. Amongst a slew of remixes for the likes of Thom Yorke and Björk, Modeslektor also went on to tour with Radiohead across Japan in 2008.

Apparat released the critically acclaimed Walls in 2007, taking a musical path that was more band-oriented that kept him on tour for several years  running.

In recording Moderat’s self-titled album, the three men began by renting studio space at the legendary Berlin Hansa Studios (where Bowie recorded Heroes) in order to record the album in analog with the help of the studio’s vintage tube technology and an old EMI console from 1972, restored especially for Moderat. American software designer, Joshua Kit Clayton, was hired to program a superb reverb algorithm specifically for the recording process of this album.
