THE FIRST SINGLE FROM TRENTEMOLLERS NEW ALBUM!

trentemoller_pressshot1Finally, here it is: the long awaited new single from Anders Trentemøller, taken from his forthcoming album ‘Into The Great Wide Yonder’.

‘Sycamore Feeling’ is a beautifully melancholic downtempo song with haunting vocals courtesy of singer Marie Fisker. Fisker’s sensual, intoxicating performance, framed by a lush instrumentation with lots of ambience, make this another great Trentemøller-track.

Rough around the edges, ‘Sycamore Feeling’ definitely sounds more indie-rock than his previous releases, thanks to the use of live drums as well as electric and acoustic guitars, yet the result is vintage Trentemøller, who played all instruments except the acoustic guitar himself.

The ‘Sycamore Feeling’ CD-single contains six different versions of the track with remixes by Thomas Schumacher, Gui Boratto, Trentemoller and Mofus.

The video for ‘Sycamore Feeling’ will be directed by video-artist Jesper Just, while the artwork comes courtesy of Trentemøller’s designer-friend and live tour drummer, Henrik Vibskov and his partner in art Andreas Emenius.

‘Sycamore Feeling’ is the first release on Trentemøller’s own label In My Room.

HORSE FEATHERS WITH NEW ALBUM ON KILL ROCK STARS!

HORSE_FEATHERS_PICHorse Feathers frontman Justin Ringle has turned out to be a songwriter strongly influenced by the seasons.  His Portland, Oregon-based band’s last record, the critically acclaimed House With No Home, was a winter album par excellence, from its chilly cover art to its frostbitten songs of loneliness and loss.

But from the first piano notes of the title track, plinking like spring rain on a windowpane, new album Thistled Spring shows itself to be one of rebirth, renewal, and fragile hope.  The sun is out in the world evoked by this music, and in the first couple of songs it feels like the sun of early spring, glinting on a frosty river where the ice is just breaking up.  “Thistled Spring” and “Starving Robins” both continue Ringle’s trademark use of space in songwriting, but in this case the space is full of potential, like the spaces between drops of melting snow.  The sun gets stronger and warmer as the album moves along, shining most brilliantly in the jaunty, joyous “Belly of June”, where Ringle’s characteristically spare vocals become fattened up with delicious harmonies as the music swells with strings and banjo.  Things get positively hot in “Cascades” and “The Drought” before blossoming into the full-fledged pop Americana gem “Vernonia Blues”.

Thistled Spring as a whole displays a rich progression – more textured and lush than the band’s previous two albums, it also captures the skilful interplay of the band’s current touring line-up of Ringle, violinist Nathan Crockett, cellist Catherine Odell, and multi-instrumentalist Sam Cooper.  Lyrically Ringle continues to explore broken relationships, longing, and pain, but this album has an undercurrent of heat that translates to a thawing of frozen hearts, and music which rushes like spring torrents, all of which points to a resurgence of life after a hard winter.

Horse Feathers’ first album, Words Are Dead, received a Plug Awards nomination for Americana Album of the Year in 2007, and their second, House With No Home was one of Kill Rock Stars’ best-selling debut records ever.  The band has spent the last two years touring, and their live shows are characterised by packed houses of silent, attentive crowds listening intently to every note and every empty space.  Their recent collaboration with members of the Oregon Ballet Theatre met with great critical acclaim, and 2010 will bring further touring in the US and Europe, including SXSW and multiple summer festivals.

"It's grim stuff, to be sure, but those strings are gorgeous enough to sweep the song's entire generation of tragedy under the rug.” - NPR

"Defines an eerie space where the skeleton of a story lies: no exposition, no names, just hints of a grief and outrage." Pitchfork

pAUL_WOOLFORD_PACKThrough his work as DJ, producer, dancefloor experimentalist, remixer, collaborator and label owner, Paul Woolford has succeeded in bringing a rare level of artistry to the world of modern dance music and in doing so, made an enduring global impact. Paul’s name is synonymous with quality through his work with everyone from Depeche Mode, Simian Mobile Disco, Delphic, The Juan Maclean, Morgan Geist, DJ Hell and Underworld, through to working with vocals by Skunk Anansie, Freeform Five, Jeremy Greenspan of Junior Boys and Jamie Lidell. Turning to original work, output on his Intimacy imprint always sparks feverish reactions, all of which contributes to make an extended release like Platform a much anticipated one.

Now onto its second release the Platform series gives musicians an outlet to produce something noteworthy. Always exceptional and pioneering in his craft, Paul Woolford was an esteemed choice to curate the latest edition in the series.

Never one to compromise, Paul comments, “Immediately I had a list of records that I knew I wanted to include - every record has been picked from the heart… It was imperative to me that I used only these tracks, with no fillers at all. My aim was not to give a 'snapshot' mix of what I'm playing on the floor at this time, but to provide what is hopefully a lasting document of my approach to music.”

The result is a proper ‘mix’; an effortless listen that explores the full spectrum of techno, jazz, cinematic electronica and house.

Renaissance: Platform mixed by Paul Woolford will be out 26 March 2010 through Renaissance/Stomp.

CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED CULT ARTIST JOSH ROUSE RETURNS!

JOSH_ROUSE_PACK“I know it’s kind of funny, this Midwestern guy doing Brazilian songs in Spanish,” says Josh Rouse about his new studio album, El Turista.  “I don’t know if it fits, but I like the way it feels.”

Unexpected and utterly sublime, El Turista’s sultry song cycle will shuffle seamlessly in tandem with Getz/Gilberto and Graceland, albums as boldly surprising in their eras as El Turista is in this one. THE CINEMATIC ORCHESTRA JOINS THE LATE NIGHT TALES FAMILY!

CINEMATIC_PACKThe idea: pick an internationally known artist with a great musical knowledge, offer them the chance to choose and mix all their favourite "home listening" and musically inspiring tracks, together with an exclusive cover recording of an all time favourite song.

Late Night Tales is proud to present The Cinematic Orchestra.

The Cinematic Orchestra’s association with the series reaches back to the inclusion of ‘Channel 1 Suite’ from their debut album ‘Motion’ on Zero 7’s memorable 2002 compilation. With track selection and order seeing many revisions since the inception of the project, we arrive in 2010 with one of the most defined Late Night Tales yet to come in the 23 title strong series

The aptly named The Cinematic Orchestra (TCO) were formed by Jason Swinscoe back in 1999 and the debut album ‘Motion’ was voted “album of the year” by listeners of Gilles Peterson’s Radio One show. In the last 6 years the Cinematics’ have played far and wide at every conceivable type of venue and on all kinds of occasion. TCO really came to the fore though with their last studio album ‘Ma Fleur’, which featured the melancholic “To Build A Home”, a track that has become a modern day classic.

With Mr.Swinscoe’s immaculate ear for the gallant, grand and the groovy, expectations is high for his Late Night Tales debut.....and by jove, it delivers! Taking in the old and the new expect to hear tracks by a diverse range of artists like Flying Lotus, Nick Drake and Bjork. Radiohead’s Thom Yorke makes an appearance as well in the form of the reflective ‘Black Swan’ and crooner Burt Bacharach sits snug alongside Dubstep hero Burial.

The Cinematic Orchestra has delivered a classic and diverse set and with a lot more surprises to come from the Late Night Tales camp, 2010 does look set to take this beautiful series to the next level.

Late Night Tales mixed by The Cinematic Orchestra will be released 10th April through Azuli/Stomp.
